Points-off workflow
Start with the total possible, then subtract the deduction.
In the setup panel, select Points off and enter the total points possible. Choose 1, 0.5, or 0.25 as a convenient button and reference-table step. You can still type another valid decimal when a student's partial-credit deduction does not match that step.
For example, a 100-point test with 10.5 points off leaves 89.5 points. A 50-point assessment with 7.25 points off leaves 42.75. The calculator uses the full decimal value to decide the grade and pass status, even if you choose to display a rounded percentage.
When points off helps
Use it for work that is not a simple missed-count test.
Constructed responses: deduct a portion of a point for a missing step, weak evidence, or a calculation error.
Mixed-weight assessments: enter the total possible and the combined points off instead of trying to convert each item to an equal question.
Rubrics with partial credit: keep a decimal deduction such as 0.25 or 1.5 intact until the final percentage is calculated.
Grade decisions
Keep local policy separate from display rounding.
Open Grade scale to set the letter bands your class uses and enter a pass line when it is different from the letter-grade cutoff. The visible percentage can show whole numbers, one decimal, or two decimals. A rounded display never changes the underlying grade decision.
